Why establish cat paternity with a DNA test?
A cat paternity test is carried out by comparing the DNA profiles of the mother and father to that of their offspring to confirm with certainty the relationships. There are several uses for such a test including the following:
- Ensure that you are purchasing a cat with a DNA-certified pedigree
- Offer your customers the guarantee of a DNA-certified pedigree
- Eliminate doubts that your litter may have multiple fathers
Cost of our Cat Parentage Test
The cat parentage test is offered at £129 this includes a sample of the mother, father (tomcat) and 1 offspring. Naturally, one can test more than one offspring at the same time, and more than one father can be included in the same test. There will be a cost for testing any additional cats.
Important Note:
For accurate cat paternity test results, it’s essential to include a sample from the mother cat. Without the mother’s sample, confirming the father’s identity cannot be guaranteed with 100% certainty. Including the mother’s DNA significantly enhances result accuracy.
How is the cat parentage test carried out?
Carrying out a cat parentage test is very simple and straightforward. DNA samples are collected by means of oral swabs that are rubbed in the inside of the mouth of each cat participating in the test. Upon ordering your test, EasyDNA will send you a Cat DNA sample collection kit containing all that is required to carry out your test. Thanks to our kit, you will NOT incur expensive veterinary fees, or draw blood samples to carry out your test, which might cause unnecessary stress on your cat. Once collected, the DNA samples need to be sent back to the laboratory for testing.
Your Results
Your cat parentage test results will be sent to you by email in 3 to 5 weeks from receipt of samples. In this report you will be told if the parentage of the tomcat is confirmed as being the biological father of the offspring. This is also described as being an ‘inclusion’. In cases where the tomcat is not found to be the father of the offspring, he is ‘excluded’ as being the biological father of the cat being tested. The results of the cat DNA Paternity Test are highly accurate and use an ISAG standard 15-DNA marker panel.
You also select to receive the result in an official format issued by the laboratory for a nominal fee of £30.
